A 35 year old woman from Kota allegedly drowned her six-month old son in the water tank on Sunday whose body was claimed by the city police on Monday. The woman is identified as Deepika Gujjar, wife of Sitaram Gujjar who is a government school teacher.When her husband woke up at 1:30am, he noticed that the baby was missing. The accused joined her husband Sitaram and mother-in-law Kelabai in the hunt for her child without disclosing the committed crime. The body was found by the grandmother Kelabai in a rooftop water tank of a house in Swaraswati Colony under Bokheda police station of the city early on Sunday. Police investigation has revealed that Deepika during her sleep, took the baby to the second floor of her three storied house, drowned him into the water tank and returned to sleep. There were no other members present to be suspected to have committed the crime. The police on this ground interrogated the mother strictly due to which she broke down and confessed that she had committed the crime. When she was asked the motive behind it, Deepika clarified that she herself is unaware how she woke up, went upstairs with her son and drowned him into the tank.Deepika had already lost 2 children due to natural causes and one due to miscarriage.The accused mother has been arrested and booked under Section 302 for murdering her son.The accused is said to have no past history of any psychological or mental disorder but the police is probing this aspect as well.
